If you have unread mail in a program which Windows XP recognizes as an E-Mail program, Windows will try to alert you - for example on the logon screen.  This feature can be disabled and enabled as you prefer.

If you run another Internet browser, it may  take control over Internet Explorer.  This can be changed within the browser, but an easier way is to fix the registry.  I have compiled a file to do it for you.
